The German Choral Association is the top address for vocal music in Germany, giving a public voice to its approximately one million members in 15,000 choirs and in dialogues with decision-makers from culture, politics and society. The guidance and orientation system throughout the building is based on musical staves and symbols.
The Deutsches Chorzentrum is home to the German Choral Association, the Berlin State Music Council and other institutions. The meeting place for networking and dialogue in the choral and vocal music scene is located in Karl-Marx-Strasse in Berlin, and as such also forms part of the Neukölln cultural and creative scene.
Construction work on the Deutsches Chorzentrum began in 2019 and the opening ceremony for the site was in June 2021. We supported the German Choral Association in planning and designing its premises over three floors. Each employee was provided with comfortable swivel chairs and height-adjustable, electrified desks.
The new working environment aims to create a friendly, modern and efficient atmosphere. For this, the acoustic requirements were taken into account, as well as design clarity and flexibility. A multifunctional event space with an arena was created for inspiring conversations. There are other meeting places for open communication, such as some meeting points and the arena. There is an appropriate space available for any kind of meeting, according to requirements.
The custom-made bench on the terrace and the cosy café area in the Deutsches Chorzentrum allow for relaxing breaks and serve as unconventional meeting points for the teams.
»For us, it was important that the furnishings and design should not be purely functional. The visual appearance and the guidance system should also reflect the musicality and identity of the German Choral Association. Our ideas have been very successfully implemented.«
Veronika Petzold, Managing Director of the German Choral Association
